NJ Accredited ST Programs

These are currently the only schools in NJ accredited by ARC/STSA – the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (A committee on Accreditation of CAAHEP and/or ABHES) and recognized by NBSTSA – The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting, to sit for the Nationally Recognized Certification Exam, programmatically accredited to produce graduates that can, by law, practice Surgical Technology in the state of New Jersey. ARC/STSA requires 120 surgical cases in order to graduate from the Surgical Technology Program and sit for the National Certification exam. New Jersey Law now requires Surgical Technologists to be certified.

Certificate in Surgical Technology
The Surgical Technology program at Bergen Community College is the only community college program in the state of New Jersey and the first program to be nationally accredited. Major hospitals throughout New Jersey and the entire Eastern seaboard seek graduates of the Surgical Technology Program, often months before graduation. Our new facilities include an integrated three-room suite incorporating a state-of-the-art classroom, a fully equipped “mock” operating room reflective of a real hospital OR, and a sterilization/prep room. Students learning in this type of environment are better prepared to enter their clinical externship because of the hands-on practice and real-life situations taught here.

Berkeley College – Woodland Park, NJ

The Surgical Technology program prepares students to work as valuable members of a surgical team, which most commonly includes surgeons, anesthesiologists, and circulating nurses. Surgical Technologists assist in surgical procedures under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel.

The Surgical Technology program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA). Students who complete a CAAHEP-accredited Surgical Technology program are eligible to sit for the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) exam, a national credentialing exam administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA). Seventy-eight percent of Berkeley College’s Surgical Technology students who graduated between August 1, 2015, and July 31, 2016, passed the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) exam on their first attempt. This pass rate is higher than the national average of 69.8 percent, according to statistics from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.

PROGRAM DURATION:
18 Months (Day) – 27 Months (Evening)

You’ve seen the dramatic scenes on tv and film where skilled surgeons save lives right on the operating table. Now you can be part of the “cast” in real life through our CAAHEP-accredited surgical technology program offered at our Ramsey campus.

In this program you’ll be immersed in a complete surgical operating room laboratory: under the supervision of a surgical professional, learn a wide variety of key procedures used in the operating room and how to work under high-pressure situations. Later, gain real-life experience through clinical work at local hospital operating rooms.
